Cinematic Imagination: Music, Media, and Modernity
Type
Documentary
My Hometown is not My City is a personal documentary with a subjective sentiment and a re-imagination of the relationship between myself and my hometown.
The documentary contradicts childhood family tapes with the current view of Beijing. During the production, I cannot physically be in Beijing, but can only see the city through the screen, and from the videos sent by family members in the city. It creates an estranged perspective between the global wanderer and their hometown, especially under rapid urban development.
This documentary is not only a subjective expression. It is a call for reflection on globalization.
This documentary was screened during the conference “Memory Montage Mosaic (four movements & ten fragments)” in spring 2022.
