PETRI PRIME Abu Dhabi is an installation, a performance, and a 3D prototype that recreates a full course meal, reflects human food consumption, food culture, and human interaction with the bacterial world.
PETRI PRIME Abu Dhabi is a speculative restaurant where human is fed from food that grows in the lab environment. By providing the cultivated biological materials relevant to the original food sample, people can still conceive the content of the dishes through the dining menu and the food labels.
The courses served in PETRI PRIME Abu Dhabi take samples from the common cafeteria. The food samples were then ground, stroked, and incubated on LB agar Petri dishes. The process replicates the general bacterial experiments. Since the LB agar is always considered as the “bacteria food”, this project extends the food chain and gets human consumption involved.
At the same time, by adding the dining etiquette to the food, the human dining experience is not only about the food but is also affected by food culture.
Besides human’s pure biological needs, the eating experience is also influenced by the environment and culture. This project raises the question on the content of human’s daily consumption: are humans eating for the taste, the nutrition, or the experience.
